Hopi ear candles
This treatment is also known as Thermo-auricular therapy. The first recorded use of ear candles was by the Pueblo Indians in South west America.
I only use original BIOSUN candles that are regularly tested. These contain a specially developed safety filter to ensure safe application.
What can I expect in a treatment
Before a first treatment is given, a brief medical history will be taken to ensure there are no contra-indications to the candles.
You will then be asked to lie down on the couch and I will perform a facial massage. This may help to relieve any congestion in the sinuses and also is an aid to start the relaxation process. Next, a lighted candle is placed in the ear and allowed to burn to the required level. To ease your mind, it is the unlit end of the candle that is placed in the ear and I hold this in place the whole time until the candle has burnt down to the red line. This can take anywhere between 8 and 15 minutes. On completion of the first ear, the same will be repeated on the other side. You remain fully clothed at all times and should allow about 45 minutes for each session.
How do Hopi ear candles work?
Hopi ear candles are not the usual wax candles as people expect them to be. They are actually a cotton tube that is soaked in bees wax, herbs and honey and then formed into a tube shape. The candle is then lit and the unlit end is placed into the opening of the ear. A gentle warmth is felt in the ear and gently massages the ear drum. This helps to soften any hard and compacted wax in the ear. The soothing vapours gently permeate out into the sinuses. At no time does any smoke or hot wax enter the ear drum.
How can the candles help me?
There are many conditions that may be helped and these include:
- Loss of hearing due to compacted ear wax
- Snoring
- Ear disorders
- Reduce symptoms connected with sinusitis
- Help with the effects of colds and flu
- Helps reduce stress and anxiety levels
- Aids relaxation
As with all treatments, it is important to remember that each person is different and each person may react differently.
